Their lens line-up is easier to browse than any other site I've used, and they seem to attract a more professional crowd, so the product reviews on their site are more helpful as well.

However, they have (at least in my New England location) faster free shipping than Amazon, possibly even Prime. Frustrating, confusing and poorly implemented.ī&H had camera equipment at prices that appear to be what Amazon sets its prices to in order to be competitive. Worse yet, if you add items using their phone app and later try to add more items or checkout from a web browser on another device, your items won't be there. Unfortunately, if you put things in your shopping cart Friday night hoping to check out on Saturday, your items will sometimes disappear. Because they're Jewish and observe Shabbat, they close the online checkout Friday afternoon and reopen on Saturday. The other issue is their online shopping cart. The other issue is even if you select next day or 2-day delivery, that only applies to the actual time the carrier takes, not the time it takes for your items to get picked and packed, which could take as long as 3-4 days depending on the days of the week you placed your order.

If you're willing to wait, your delivery window will generally be a 3-day span and they almost always deliver a day late. They use the worst shipping service on the planet: FedEx. The problems seem to occur with their shipping and shopping cart. They have a pretty decent selection and they'll answer any questions, often without attitude or sarcasm.

Using their branded credit card gets me a discount equal to the tax I'd normally pay, and for me, that's about 10%. Prices are often the lowest or at least competitive. I've been buying from B&H online for the past 25 years and for the most part, they get it right. Now I think twice before ordering from B&H. Five years ago I had to deal with their customer service and as a few others here reported, I also found them to be highly arrogant and patronizing. all for the exact same item for which B&H now charges $350+. Instead I took a look at EBay, rejected one $250 seller for too many buyer complaints then an hour ago finally bought it from a $280 seller in the next state. And now they charge tax too, making their bottom line prices outrageous. After Christmas they jacked the price up to $350 making a mockery of their $299 regular price for the previous year. I hoped the Christmas sales or the post-Christmas inventory reduction sales would drop prices to my desired level but B&H's price drops were pathetic. For the past 6 months I've been watching a $300 electronics item waiting for the best price before I buy with the intention of buying several more in the near future. Their heydays are gone and eventually they will drive themselves out of business because of their arrogance and greed. Lately they seem to have forgotten the cardinal rule of business, that the customer is always right and not the CEO. They used to be the very best both in terms of price, service and delivery speed. I've been buying from B&H for 40 years dating back to the days of paper catalogs, mail order and any delivery time under a month being good.

In one word B&H can be described as: greedy. Brian Markman smoothed over his mess after a previous unfortunate experience with BH, but I don't think I should recommend companies where you have to have a special contact to be treated well. His mixture of condescension and arrogance is another reason to avoid this company if at all possible. Sad because they were a good company before that. I've just had too many problems ordering through bh over the last few years. I strongly suspect they would have sold it out from under me if I hadn't made a big deal out of it. I contacted customer support and magically they shipped the item. I randomly checked the site about a week later and the item was in stock, but mine hadn't shipped. Seems like the company stops caring about the customer the minute they have your money. Call for sales and you're talking to someone in 1-5 minutes, but they refuse to help you. It seems like I have to call support every other order now.
